How to write a good abstract ?

An abstract is like a movie trailer . People will only consider reading the rest of the manuscript if they find your abstract interesting.

Tips to write a good abstract :

  1. Introduce the problem statement : What problem are you trying to solve? What is the scope of your work (a generalized approach, or for a specific situation)? Be careful not to use too much jargon.

  2. Data and Methods used to present the research : How did you go about solving or making progress on the problem? Did you use simulation, analytic models, prototype construction, or analysis of field data for an actual product?

  3. Results and conclusion of the research : What’s the answer? Put the result there, in numbers. Avoid vague, hand-waving results such as “very”, “small”, or “significant.” If you must be vague, you are only given license to do so when you can talk about orders-of-magnitude improvement.

Is inequality efficient or inefficient 
The purpose of this paper is to establish the relationship between inequality and efficiency. This work aims at evaluating whether inequality is efficient or inefficient with the support of primary and secondary data. The term ‘Inequality’ is widespread and thus, has multiple types and definitions. However, this research focuses on a type of inequality that occurs on a smaller level amongst individuals but has a cumulative impact on the economy and the world as a whole. We label this inequality as ‘Socio- biological inequality’. This term can be defined as the unnatural imbalance created by society on the basis of biological dis-similarities between human beings. It is a chronic societal custom that justifies discrimination on the foundation of a human being’s natural make-up which is brought to close scrutiny in this research paper.

The first instinct of inequality for many people is along the lines of gender which comes within the bandwidth of our definition. Employers denying jobs to women of child bearing age, in the fear of granting them a possible maternity leave, unfair allocation of education opportunities, close to no job opportunities for an individual who belongs to a marginalized community (the LGBTQA+ scenario in our country, for one) are things that are propagated rampantly, despite their glaring repercussions to the economy. Further, existence of outdated quotas which were initially a policy result in favour of the oppressed, but now contribute to inequality of opportunities will also be given due consideration in our study. The aim is to integrate all the instances of the existence of natural diversity which pave social practices to mold them into a shortcoming, i.e., something that can be subject to discrimination.

In order to understand the efficient or inefficient impact of the above mentioned inequality on the economy, we create an interesting contrast between what ‘ought to be’ (pertaining to normative norms) also identified as an idealistic world where socio-biological inequalities do not exist and ‘what is’- the real world, (leaning towards positive norms) by analysing the collected data and using economic indices like the rate of overall growth i.e., GDP, literacy rate, female foeticide rate, and others to draw a valid conclusion. This will not only help us answer the broad question of whether or not this practice is efficient but also give us a clear metric about the extent to which it is unavoidable.

Sample 2 :
The impact of growth the “Gig Economy” will have upon the traditional labour market.
The objective of our paper is to analyze the impact of growth the “Gig Economy” will have upon the traditional labour market. In doing so, we will take a look into the potential of the growth of the gig economy, if any, and evaluate its potential to replace and/or change the structure of full term employment. To study the same, we will utilize both a qualitative and a quantitative stance of analysis.

Qualitatively, we seek to identify what drives firms to embark upon part time employment and what is the rationale behind the status quo in the employment situation. We will also look at this argument from the perspective of labour, studying both the benefits and the costs that arise with gig employment.

Quantitatively, by observing the available statistical data surveyed for by the various labour organisations, we will seek to conclude the potential of growth of the gig economy.

Given the standstill in employment generation and the plight of the millennial workers wanting to enter the labour market, we will identify if the gig economy can exceed or at least match the traditional labour market in terms of employment generation.

The question of revolutionizing can be looked at from two perspectives – the first is that of the gig economy as a substitute to the traditional market. The second and a more important aspect is to study whether the aspects that make the gig economy attractive to the millennial workforce, such as the aspect of freedom and flexible work hours, can be incorporated into the full-time employment scenario, and if this model-mix can solve the employment crisis.

The key question we seek to answer is whether in the long run, a move away from traditional employment and labour market patterns towards a gig economy, or the model mix, will lead to a higher standard of living, greater overall morale of employees, more productive firms, and stabilization of the unemployment rate around the natural rate of unemployment.
