Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics (MDAE) held its first convocation ceremony on the 29th of July, 2016, to felicitate the batch of 2015-16 and welcome the batch of 2016-17. The event began with Mr. Karan Shah (COO, MDAE) welcoming the guests and inviting from Lord Meghnad Desai (Chairman, MDAE) to share his thoughts. Lord Desai heartily congratulated the inaugural batch for their achievements, and thanked them for the trust they placed in the Academy. He also welcomed and encouraged the incoming batch and reminded them that the coming year at MDAE will require a lot of commitment and hard work.
Our Chief Guest, Dr. Rueben Abraham (CEO, IDFC Institute) was then called on stage to share a few words. Dr. Abraham drew from his own experience and motivated the students through various anecdotes from his work. He remarked that a good economist must always remain curious, ask the right questions and always look for solutions. He congratulated the graduating batch on their milestones and wished the new batch luck for the coming academic year.
Dr. Neeraj Hatekar (Director, Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, and Visiting Faculty at MDAE) was invited on stage. Dr. Hatekar highlighted the successful partnership between University of Mumbai and MDAE and congratulated the students on their accomplishments.
Mr. Karan Shah then finally declared the convocation open, and the students were called on stage on stage to receive their diplomas. The highest GPA scorers, Mr. Mustafa Arif (1st) and Ms. Surbhi Kumar (2nd) were also awarded a certificate of excellence.
The event ended with Mr. Harshal Bhagwat, CEO, MDAE) giving the vote of thanks and a small token of appreciation was given to Dr. Abraham. Guests then moved to high tea.
