After having served as the minister of defense, Nirmala Sitharaman steps into another role. As finance minister, she is concerned with the economy of India, a large task at hand. She is the first full-time woman trusted with this role, and what an incredible journey she has had. Having joined the BJP in 2006 and only in 2017, was Nirmala Sitharaman appointed as the Defense Minister, and swiftly, one of the fastest ascents in Indian politics, she moved to the Ministry of Finance, and it seems like an appropriate move considering her background.
Nirmala Sitharaman had completed her MSc in Economics and an MPhil in Economics. It is no surprise that someone with an Economics background is put in charge of the Indian Economy.
The departments the Minister of Finance will overlook are:
- Department of Economic Affairs
- Department of Expenditure
- Department of Revenue
- Department of Financial Services
- Department of Investment and Public Asset Management
These departments are concerned with taxation, financial legislation, financial institutions, capital markets, centre and state finances, and the Union Budget.
